Convention Committee
Purpose:
These suggested guidelines are a result of the accumulated experience of this committee. They are intended to help guide each current committee and to hopefully avoid pitfalls encountered in the past. Area Committee actions are not included, e.g. actions approved for the disposal of excess funds from each convention. These actions are reported in the minutes of the Area Committee.
History:
This convention Committee was recognized as permanent committee at the Work Weekend December 1983. Prior to that the committee had been appointed by the Area Committee each year. The yearly convention of the area provides a setting where AA members and their families and friends come together for a social and informative weekend. A series of workshops have been held as well as an alkathon. Alanon and Alateen participate as well. Our Old-timers meeting on Saturday, as well as speakers from all over have been invited to share their stories throughout the weekend. Historically our convention has been held at a hotel centrally located in Area 44. It starts with an Early Bird meeting on Friday ad continues on all weekend with a variety of meetings, workshops, speakers, and more. Our service committees will be there to showcase their 12th step work. There is entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. There are a variety of meal packages to suite your needs highlighted by our Saturday night Banquet. On Sunday morning we hold a spiritual meeting with speakers from Area 44. We hope to see you there.
