What We Do:
The Public Information Committee shares the same goal as every AA group and every type of service work: To carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers. The difference is that Public Information tries to reach the alcoholic indirectly, as well as directly, in two ways:
- By informing the general public about the AA program. There are so many misconceptions about AA as a whole. We are here to help the alcoholic who still suffers, many times by planting a seed.
- By keeping the fellowship well-informed so that members and groups may carry the message more effectively.
Why We Do It:
We all made it to AA by some form of AA service. What better way to give back than to help a possible newcomer? Much of the public is strongly misinformed about what AA is. We carry the message by being a daily example and explaining to the public “what AA is” and “what it is not”. Without the work of Public Information there is a chance that the alcoholic who still suffers may never find AA.
